Mission
At the UMDG we believe that mobile is the future, and that there is as big a revolution with mobile devices as there was with the PC revolution or mass adoption of the Internet. Our interest is in all mobile technology, and on educating and supporting each other.
We have had presentations on iPhone, Android, HTML 5, Web OS (Palm Pre), BlackBerry and Windows Mobile. We are currently focused on Android and HTML 5/CSS 3.
Sponsors
Software Technology Group http://www.stgutah.com has sponsored the UMDG, meaning that they have paid for all expenses (mainly pizza and soft drinks). IHC provides the facilities at no charge (for the primary and secondary meetings) and O’Reilly Books, Addison-Wesley, Wrox Publishing and Manning have all provided books as door prizes. JetBrains (the makers of IntelliJ) and ZeroTurnaround provide free licenses of their products as door prizes each meeting. We are thankful to all of our sponsors for their support. Thank you!
It costs just under $2,000 to run the UMDG, and all of that goes to the food – we take no money out of the group – it is completely volunteer-run. We could use your help. Please talk to your business or organization about sponsoring the UMDG and contact Scott or myself (info below).
Meeting Times
We have two regular meetings each month. Our primary meeting is on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. We start with pizza at 5:30, news and announcements at 6:00, two presentations 45-60 minutes in length and networking.
Our second meeting is as a breakout group at the Utah Java User Group. See http://www.ujug.org for meeting details. We meet at 8:00 during the breakout sessions. During this session we focus on our group project (see below).
Meeting Location
Our primary meeting is held at the Huntsman Education Center at LDS Hospital, and IHC facility. We meet in the South Auditorium, which is quite spacious and has one of the largest projector screens I’ve evern seen. Easy, easy to see and a very nice facility. The education center is in the building just North of the main entrance at 8th Avenue and C Street in Salt Lake City. If you need help finding it, just go into the main entrance and ask, they are quite helpful.

Group Project
We currently have a group project underway, and our secondary meeting is where we focus on this. In the primary meetings we go over the technologies; in the secondary meetings we work on an application.

Membership in the UMDG is free and we invite everyone interested in mobile application development to attend. We manage the membership, post meeting/event information and generally take care of everything else on our Facebook site.
